The koalas are waking up, while hanging in various positions in the gum trees (eucalyptus trees). A mother koala is climbing around the branches with her joey called Fuzzy in her pouch. Others are eating leaves. A while later, Fuzzy has grown larger and wants to venture out and play with his friend Mika. They decide to meet on the ground. While climbing down a cockatoo pops his head out of a hole in the tree trunk. A frightened Fuzzy slips and dangles on a branch. Safely, at the bottom of the tree, they decide to play hide and seek until bedtime. The book features the numbers 1 to 10, as used in counting for their game. Later on, Fuzzy snuggles up in his mothers arms to go to sleep. Other illustrations of kookaburras, pink and grey Galahs (cockatoos), a Frilled neck lizard as well as beautiful eucalyptus trees, blossoms and gum nuts are included.
