46 x 13 x 13cms Sculpted between 150 and 125BC it is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It bears the name Venus - the Roman counterpart of Aphrodite. It is sometimes known as Aphrodite di Milos as naming a Greek sculpture after a Roman deity is somewhat imprecise. Originally it would have had both arms but when Venus Di Milo was rediscovered on the Greek Island of Milos in 1820 the arms were no longer intact. Since shortly after it's re-discovery it has been housed at the Louvre in Paris.
