Fair Go Trading Kaisa Dyed Swirl Baskets - Set of 2
Kaisa is a wild grass native to Bangladesh, commonly used in basket-making. Unlike traditional baskets, these kaisa baskets feature a swirl of vibrant colors, achieved by dyeing the grass in small vats—a process that's entirely hand-done by artisans.
Our Fair Trade artisans from Rangpur, in northern Bangladesh, meticulously hand-dye and hand-make each basket. Your purchase supports meaningful employment for these artisan families and their communities.
Kaisa grass is a sustainable fiber that grows along Bangladesh's riverbanks. It changes color from natural light green to pale tan as it dries. While kaisa baskets are common in Bangladesh, they are not so common in Australia.
The artisans bunch and coil the kaisa stalks, binding them with upcycled saree strips to create each basket. These unique baskets add a vibrant splash of color to any space, embodying the essence of Fair Trade and sustainability.
