Manabaskets IMARA
Imara means 'strong' in Kiswahili, and this collection of Imara baskets is the most robust, long-lasting basket in the entire Manabaskets range. Handwoven from baobab fibre, from the Baobab Tree bark, women who weave each basket take one to two months to complete each one. The traditional designs of browns, blacks and naturals are created by women living in extremely remote, typically arid, rural villages in Kenya. Leather handles, secured strongly to the basket are added.
The women artisans make their baskets during the dry seasons, when we buy directly from them, paying fair cash purchases immediately. During the rainy season, the roads to their villages are inaccessible. This is the time of the year when women, brilliant at multi-tasking, take to the fields to plant and hopefully harvest.
Just know when you order an Imara basket from Manabaskets, you not only receive a rare basket of beauty, but you are empowering women weavers, and supporting Manasprings, a charitable organisation that supports grassroots women leaders caring for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in Kenya.
100% of profits are given back to Manasprings.
Given every Manabasket is handmade, the size may differ. Colours and designs in photographs are an indication only of the collection. We will alway do our best to provide you with the most fabulous, one-of-a-kind baskets from the selection you choose. Given Manabaskets are woven by hand, the slight imperfections in the baskets are celebrated, and are not defects. Sizes available, from XXXL to XS.
